Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to become a member?
A $500 application fee is required to be reviewed by our Board of Directors, once approved, that converts to an ownership share in the club.
What are the ongoing costs for members?
Members pay monthly dues of $130 whether or not they flew a plane. This fee helps cover fixed expenses such as hangar rental, insurance, and some maintenance.
Pilots are only charged for the time that they operate the engine. That is, Key City Fliers uses the time registered on the tachometer for billing.
Our planes are billed at the follow rates, which were effective July 2023, and include fuel:
-
- $130/hr. for the Cherokee
- $145/hr. for the Archer
- $165/hr. for the Dakota
Do I need special insurance?
As a member, you are covered by Key City Fliers’ insurance policy.
How do I reserve a plane?
Our online reservation system allows you to reserve an aircraft at any time.
Once your membership begins, you will receive an account at AircraftClubs.com
Where do I park?
No parking hassles. Simply leave your vehicle in the hangar while you are flying.
What does it take to earn a pilot's certificate?
The cost of earning your private pilot’s certificate is roughly $10,000 and is directly dependent on how much time you are willing to dedicate to the process. If someone flies 2-3 times per week, on average, it will take about 60 hours of flight time. However, if you stretch it out, it will likely cost more and take longer.
Can I use 529 Plan money to pay for flight instruction?
No. Key City Fliers is a flying club, not an educational institution or a flight school. There are instructors in the club who can provide flight instruction but only to the members.
